W7 - Tourism Design & Development

The Tourism Design & Development week aims to provide an overview of the structure and scope of the travel/tourism industry by expert leaders in the MENA region. The workshop examines the components of tourism industry through topics in cultural context, heritage and learn to define a strategy that is applicable to its local culture. Through the studies, learners will gain an understanding of the concepts, models, and theories used within the industry, and will also enhance their skills of investigation, analysis, interpretation and evaluation.

Human Centered Design

This workshop is an introduction to the human-centered design (HCD) mode of thinking. Human Centred design is not just a way to develop products for the market and helps to address social problems and to improve our lives.

  • This hands on workshop will take you through a full design cycle to have an understanding of how Human Centred design works
  • Learning about HCD approach, and get a taste of each of the design modes: empathise, define, ideate, prototype, test
  • To engage with people when you make design decisions, and understand the benefit of rapid prototyping, an iterative approach, and a focus on doing.

  • Founder of Banafsajeel, a curatorial platform for art and design
  • Graduated from Harvard with an honours in Visual and Environmental Studies.

Tourism Design & Development: Internal Tourism

The workshop will explore the realities and potentials of internal tourism in Saudi Arabia

  • Collectively to investigate how a sustainable model for internal tourism can be a tool to engage citizens and residents and encourage city development.
  • On analyzing the practical condition of tourism and development strategies in place for each Jeddah and find possibilities for collaboration and mediation between the stakeholders
  • Workshop will include field exercises to understand what constitutes a typical tour destination, and explore alternative touristic experiences in each city
  • Learning the importance of curation and communication in tourism

  • Multidisciplinary platform that curates cultural tours and delivers spatial studies.
  • Co-curated the exhibition “Kethra” which was the first Kuwait’s participation in Venice Architectural Biennial 2012
