The Media & Advertising week aims to equip the participants, both the theoretical and the practical research skills to understand and critically evaluate one of the most creative promotional industries in the world: Media and Advertising. Our local experts will bring about a dynamic phenomenon from different standpoints and use multidisciplinary approaches deriving from Media and Cultural Studies, as well as marketing strategies to deliver an all-round workshop to the participants.

Development of Transmedia Storytelling Strategies

Transmedia Narrative Design (or how to create a transmedia project, engage the fans and survive in a highly competitive environment)

  • To understand the transformations of the media ecology, focusing on the passing from the broadcasting to the network paradigm.
  • To study the emergence and main traits of transmedia storytelling.
  • Analyzing a series of transmedia productions in different fields (fiction, journalism, documentary, etc.).
  • To develop a draft version of a transmedia project

About the Expert

  • Professor at the Department of Communication of the University Pompeu Fabra – Barcelona.
  • Principal Investigator of the Horizon 2020 “Transmedia Literacy” research project (2015-2018). Research include media ecology/evolution, transmedia storytelling and semiotics of interfaces.

The workshop is based on the theory and practice of the contemporary photobook-making and self-publishing. The following content makes up its main structure:

  • Participants will learn about the history Artist’s book and Photographic book. Looking at the theories of photography and the art of the image and post photography in the digital age.
  • Literature and creation of texts and images. Management and production of photography projects and editing.
  • Editing, Mock-Up, Publication, Distribution of the Photobook.
  • A fundamental element of this workshop is its orientation towards the personal project which leads to on a mock-up for a (self-), publication.

  • Barcelona-based curator, educator and writer in the field of Photography and New Media . Worked for institutions such as MoMA New York, La Fábrica Madrid and Photo Ireland Festival.
  • Academic director of the Photography Department of IED Madrid.
